Visiting Horsham played very well in the first 15 minutes and had two chances to go 2-0 up but were denied by the England goalkeeper’s quick reactions.

Horsham dominated the possession with some wonderful hockey but a breakaway goal from Frazer put Holcombe 1-0 up at half time.

The Horsham girls were playing well in the second half but with Spanish and South African internationals among their talented side, Holcombe ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Coach Jane Denman said: “It was a shame the goals did not happen for us but they should not be disappointed with this result.”

Horsham take on Wimbledon this Saturday and will look to continue playing well.

A highly entertaining game of hockey saw Horsham Ladies Seconds looking set for a shock victory before Lewes Firsts fought back to earn a 3-3 draw.

With Lewes starting the game third in the league and Horsham eighth, on paper the visitors should have been all over Horsham, and it was Lewes who scored first. Horsham fought back when Zeph Hardy’s strong delivery into the circle found captain Fran Crossley at the far post to deflect the ball home on the reverse - a magic moment to bring them level at half-time.

Horsham had a strong 20 minutes after the restart, scoring two more - Crossley stealing the ball from the Lewes defenders and netting and Becca McDowell putting away a well-struck penalty Corner.

At 3-1 up Horsham were looking comfortable, but Lewes came back to apply the pressure and they scored two more from well-worked short corners to earn a draw which Horsham skipper Crossley said felt like a defeat for her side.
