Horsham Hockey Club youngsters do club proud at County Championships

Illness and injury did not prevent two Under-12 boys teams from Horsham Hockey Club putting in brave performances at the County Championship at Eastbourne on Sunday.

Horsham Hawks, captained by the energetic Myles Edwards, were undefeated in the pool stage but with four straight draws didn’t quite have enough firepower to reach the final, but played some of the best hockey of the season against the very best in the county. Louie Darlington scored a great goal and the tireless running of Louis Dishington, Joe Tait and Eddie Bromley-Ellis created some great chances. The defence of Finn Doran, Ben Scammell and Tommy Bull proved difficult to break through while Kieran Bellamy made some great saves.

Horsham Hornets, a much younger team, were up against it with striker George Cardwell and midfielder Fergal Eason-Butler both reporting ill for duty - but both gave everything on the day.

Not to be deterred they opened with a great draw against East Grinstead, which included fine performances from captain Angus Hall, Massimno Gwynne, Ben Kinnison and goalkeeper Dan Masser. Tom Emery gave everything before coming off injured in the final match against Worthing. Felix Skipton-Carter was Horsham’s man of the tournament.
