Life saving team win 14 golds at championships

Crawley Town actually tied with Belfast in terms of golds but lost out on the overall count back.

At the championships the club also established another four new British records; on form Simon Worne broke both his current records in 100m carry with fins and 100m tow with fins in times of 48.66 seconds and 52.60 seconds respectively.

He also supported Richard Jagger, Sam Lawman and Martin Schofield when they four broke one of the longest standing British records set by Crawley Town back at RESCUE 2002 in Orlando, Florida by recording a time of 1:44.10 in the 4x50m obstacle relay.

They then set a second British relay record in the final blue ribbon event of the championships the 4x50m medley relay.

Crawley Town highest Open age group points scorer was tied between Richard Jagger and Simon Worne who both finished 2nd with 88 points just 3 points behind Ben Taylor-Walsh from the Leeds Phoenix Life Saving & Lifeguards club. It’s worth noting that while both Richard and Ben competed in six individual events, Simon only took part in five as he was targeting his current two British records. In the under-18 age group Marti Schofield also finished second on 98 points behind Sinead Gouley.

Other male winners in the Open age group were; Sam in the 50m manikin carry when he achieved a remarkable time of 31.08 when considering a manikin weight of 43kg and the 3m depth from which he retrieved it, Richard in both the 200m super lifesaver during which he also made the same manikin lift and 200m obstacle race.

Simon with his partner Sam Murray had to beat current World and European championships to win gold the 12.5m line throw.

Richard, Sam, Simon and Martin also took gold in a third relay the 4x 25m manikin for which Crawley Town also currently holds the British record.

Crawley’s top lady was current British record holder Devon Amos as she retained both her 100m carry with fins and 100m Tow with fins title and just like Simon went on to support her three team-mates; Jade Hand, Lucy Howes and Vicky Threfall when winning golds in the 4x50m medley relay and a silver in the 4x25m manikin relay in which Emma Wilkinson took the place of Jade.

In the youth age groups Crawley Town’s girls highest placings were Frankie Philips with partner Georgia Blenkley in the 12/14 girls 10m line throw who missed out on a gold by just a tenth of a second an so had to settle for silver. Their highest individual placing were sixth and 12th respectively with team mate Emily Hurst following close behind with 14th top placing.

In the girls 15/17 age group Crawley Town’s highest placing in the line was 12th by Ellyn Reeve and Jade. Jade’s highest individual placing was 11th and team-mate Emma Wilkinson ninth.

Crawley’s top boy was Martin Schofield who won two golds in the 100m carry with fins and 100m tow with fins and three silvers in the 50m manikin carry, 100m obstacles and 100m rescue medley.

Fellow team mate Joe Woollard highest finish was an impressive sixth.
