LIFESAVING: Crawley Town triumph at British Championships

They also set at least five new British records and 119 medals, 68 of which were gold.

Devon Amos the county’s top lady fin competitor was top of Crawley’s open medal table, winning five golds, three of which being relay golds.

Team members Jessica Handcock, Lucy Howes and Vicky Threfall, a gold in the line with subject Vicky and an individual gold in 100m Manikin Tow with fins.

Amos had to accept silver in the 100n manikin carry with fins.

Richard Jagger won four golds, three silvers and a bronze all on the Saturday.

Three golds were with the relay teams featuring Dan Seagrove-Castle, David Butler, Martin Schofield & Joe Woollard.

Jagger narrowly lost out on three further golds.

Crawley’s older youth members Jade Hand, Jessica Handcock, Joe Woollard, Martin Schofield, Sam Murray and Elliot Key contributed the most to the club’s success, between won 29 gold, 15 silver and four bronze medals.

Martin gained six relay golds and three individual golds, Jessica with three relay and three individual golds and Joe with four relay and two individual golds,

Martin, Joe, Sam and Elliot achieved two British relay records in the 15-17 age group 4 v 50m obstacle (01:51.80) and 4 x 25m manikin (01:22.10) relays.

The girls U15 team consisting of Brooke Mickel, Frankie Philips, Georgia Blenkley and Kiera Narraway achieved a new British relay record in 4 x 50 obstacle relay (01:15.06).

The team also took gold in the other two relays the 4 x 50 medley and the 4 x 25m manikin relays for the latter Emily Hurst took the place of Frankie.

Emily swimming in the U13 category also took an individual gold and two bronzes.

In the U17 age group the girls’ team of Jessica Handcock, Jade Hand, Ellyn Reeve and Ruby Jamieson had to settle for silvers in their respective relays.

Crawley top U15 boy was Jack Field who took four individual golds.

Donna Wickens smashed her own two 50-54 age group British records in the Masters 50m manikin carry (00:45.77) and 100m rescue medley (01:36.59).

Current 55-59 World ladies masters line throw champion Jennie Amos won an gold in the 100m manikin tow with fins and past (2002) Open Ladies World Line champion Abi Hoyle won silver in both the 50m manikin carry and 100m manikin tow with fins.

Crawley Town’s oldest competitor Mareen Fakley who incidentally is the mother of record breaking Donna, celebrated her 80th birthday in true competitive style by winning individual silver and bronze in the 100m manikin tow with fins and 50m manikin carry.
