Mini masters court tennis fame at Chichester

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted an eight-and-under mini master county tour tournament.

This was the latest in a series of junior tennis tournaments scheduled for the club’s Dome over the winter season.

The red-ball event had a round-robin format of two groups. The winners of each group qualified for the final and Henry Knapton of Comptons Tennis Club beat Daniel Mckitterick of Chichester 11-9 in a very high-quality match.

Third place went to Aidan Randell of Chichester, who beat Cara Mccully of West Worthing 10-8 in the third-fourth place play-off.

There were almost 50 matches played in total during the afternoon, with each match being a match tie-break first to ten points.

Tournament organiser Peter Cook said: “It’s so good to see so many juniors from the Chichester club competing regularly against players from other Sussex clubs.

“We welcome and encourage these young budding tennis players, who have not played at our club before, to come and enjoy playing in our tournaments.

“We actively promote mini and junior tennis at the club and a programme of tournaments for all age groups has also been scheduled for the summer.”
