Misery for Peacehaven and Wealden

Peacehaven and Wealden both suffered last day heartbreak in their attempts to gain promotion to division one of the county league.

Peacehaven were certain of a top three spot if they could beat Westfield at home on Saturday but a frustrating 0-0 draw saw their season's efforts in vain.

Wealden, meanwhile, suffered even worse at the hands of fortune. A 5-1 victory at Crawley Down seemed to have assured them a place in the promotion berths.

But a last minute goal for St Francis Rangers at champions Pagham meant Wealden were denied at the last gasp.

To add to their misery, Wealden had an identical win-draw-lose record to St Francis - and a superior goal difference - but a two-point penalty awarded against Broadbridge Heath for fielding a suspended player two days before Christmas - against St Francis - cost Wealden promotion.
