Ifield Golf Club member Colin Jones is the new Welsh Seniors Open champion.
Jones scored a two-over-par 72 the opening round at Aberdovey Golf Club.
Disrupted by delays for fog and heavy rain, he was four shots behind early leader, Wenvoe Castle’s Keith Stimpson.
As the weather improved Jones scored two-under-par 68 in his second round to give himself a one-shot lead.
In the final round Jones played the first nine holes in one over par which increased his lead to three as the pressure told on his pursuers.
A dramatic three-under-par back nine by Welsh International Nigel Evans turned up the heat on Jones, however he responded well with eight solid pars and an eagle to finish with a one -under-par 69 and a two-shot winning margin.
He said: “My success is due to the hard work put in over the last 12 months under the guidance of Ifield’s head professional Jon Earl.
Jones is enjoying a good first season as a senior (over 55) as he recently also won the Sussex Seniors title at Highwoods.
The win leaves him second in the Welsh Seniors rankings and with a good chance of being selected to represent Wales in the Home Internationals in September.
