Kin Ryu Judo Club, based at K2 Crawley, recently sent a squad of 40 to the 2016 Sussex County Championships in Worthing.

Throughout the day, both juniors and seniors fought the best in Sussex for the title of Sussex champion and they didn’t disappoint.

The squad displayed some of their finest throwing, ground-holds, arm-locks and strangles, with many finishing with the coveted Ippon score - judo’s equivalent of a knockout in boxing.

Between them, the squad came away with 16 golds, ten silvers, 11 bronzes and the overall title for the sixth successive year.

Although there were many superb performances throughout the day, special mention has to go to Corlia Robertson, who impressively won her seventh consecutive county title and is undefeated as a junior athlete.

William Burke won his fifth consecutive title and Jack Thompson who won gold in the juniors and silver in the senior men’s event.

Additionally, William Burke was presented with the Boys’ Spirit of Judo award.
