Crawley discus star Jade Lally has won an international throwing competition in Portugal.
Representing England in Leira, Lally won with her furthest throw of the season, 59.78m.
It was not the big throw I’m looking for but I beat a lot of good throwers so I’m happy with that.”England discus champion Jade Lally
She said: “It was not the big throw I’m looking for but I beat a lot of good throwers so I’m happy with that.”
Last week Lally, who is a personal trainer, won the English Senior Championships for the third time at Bedford.
The victory came 12 months exactly since she won the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
However, this time around the celebrations were muted as she won it with her worst throw of the season, 56.20m.
It was well short of the 61 metres required to reach the qualifying standard for this year’s World Championships later this month in Beijing in China.
She said: “I was disappointed with the distance, unfortunately I couldn’t deal with the wind and it led to my worst throw of the season.
“Beijing is now off the cards and everything has to be geared towards next year’s Olympics in Rio.”
