Horsham motor-racing expert's book on 70 Years of Formula 1

Formula 1 took the world by storm when launched 70 years ago. From the first race in 1950, it has continued to captivate fans around the world, and now attracts a total TV audience of 1.92 billion with more than 500 million fans worldwide.

Few sports have changed as dramatically as Formula 1 motor racing although it essentially remains the same, a high-speed race in cars constructed to the highest technical performance level possible.

And now author Maurice Hamilton, who lives in Horsham, has written a book that covers the official history of the popular sport.

Hamilton was The Observer’s motor racing correspondent from 1990- 2010 and a summariser on BBC Radio 5 Live’s motor racing coverage. He has written over 12 books on Formula 1 and several biographies of drivers and team principals and he has attended over 500 Grands Prix worldwide.

Formula 1- The Official History: Charts the championship, highlighting the racing heroes, explores the growth and diversity of each season and title races, marks the arrival and departure of manufacturers and key moments as well as major improvements in all aspects of safety and contains special features on the greatest drivers and teams, important personnel, famous and infamous incidents and key changes to the rules of safety, design and competitiveness.

This book, which has a foreword by Ross Brawn OBE, is a celebration of one of the world’s most glamorous, competitive and prestigious sports.

The book is released on Thursday, October 15 and is priced at £25 and is published by Welbeck.
