Not just two in title race

South Saxons captain Paddy Cornish believes it’s too early to describe the title battle as a two-horse race.

Second-placed Saxons are a point adrift of South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One leaders Horsham II, but four ahead of third-placed Lewes III and fourth-placed Penguin with nine matches remaining.

Cornish said: “We’re two games into the second half (of the season), there’s still a lot of league games for us and also for Horsham.

“One of us has got to slip up somewhere. I’m not too sure it’s a two-horse race, I think it’s too early to say that. If Lewes beat us, they’re only a point behind us.”

Saxons face a local derby away to seventh-placed Eastbourne II tomorrow (Saturday). Although 7-0 winners in October’s reverse fixture, the return could be more difficult as Eastbourne have won five of their last six games.

Dan Burnett will return in place of Oscar Rogers (pictured), but with Saxons again likely to field a squad of 12, Jamie Busbridge and Dave Draper are expected to remain in the seconds.
