Rider aiming for Olympic gold

SUSSEX rider Amy Stovold made the dressage world sit up and take note when she won the Rhinegold 6-year-old Potential Dressage Horse Championship in 2003 with a 17hh Holstein stallion named Lenski, putting in an outstanding score of 81.8 per cent-despite having to operate on a shoestring budget

The performance set them on the Olympic trail and today Amy, who is based in Staplefield, is working hard to try to secure a place in the 2012 Olympic team- and is hoping that a local company, business or individual will step in to share the potential glory by giving her vital sponsorship.

Amy and Lenski followed up on the 2003 championship by becoming the Medium Restricted UK National Dressage Champions in 2004 and since then has consistently good results by winning many regional competitions and the title of National Potential six-year-old dressage horse champion at Hickstead recently.

She has estimated it will cost her around 400,000 during the next five years to be in with a real change of a gold medal at the Olympics. This will pay for transport to national shows, basic running costs at the yard, training, shoeing, training and a much-needed horse box.

She has horses which are good enough plus her own determination and dedication as well as talent.
