Teams were made up of boys and girls and men and women in three side-by-side tournaments, for the elite teams, kids and adult social teams.

The day saw some tough competition mixed in with a whole lot of smiles, and whether you won or lost, everyone was having fun and paying tribute to a remarkable and popular former teacher at the high school, who died earlier this year.

Students past and present enjoyed taking on the teachers with a lot of light-hearted banter.

So far, more than £1,500 has been raised for Ian’s favourite charities – Send a Cow and St Wilfrid’s Hospice – with more money coming in every day.

This was a fitting tribute to a friend, colleague and family man who was very well known in the Chichester community, at Chichester Rugby Club, Chichester City Youth Football Club and the church community.

Chichester RFC are staging a big day of beach rugby this Saturday at West Wittering.
