Seven points to take title, but Hornets won't let up

The Horsham manager is still refusing to even look at the Premier Division table despite his side sitting pretty at the summit with a three-point lead and a game in hand.

But he knows he doesn’t want the race going down to the final day when Horsham face a difficult trip to Pagham.

A narrow 1-0 win coupled with Eastbourne Town’s 3-1 loss to Pagham saw the Hornets take a huge step to the title on Saturday and due to their impressive goal difference, six points will all-but seal the crown.

Di Paola said: “It was a good result for us, but I keep saying it, I have not looked at the table - I can’t bring myself to look at it.

“We will now just go into Saturday’s game where we have got to try and get a win - it’s a huge game. We want to try and get into a position where we don’t have to win on the last day of the season.

“We can take nothing for granted and think we have got ourselves into a good position and let off. The main aim for me is to get the results as soon as possible. All we can do is think about Saturday, in the last couple of games we have done that and it has worked well.

“As and when we pick up the points, I will start to think about it, but I cannot bring myself to think about it this year.

“At East Preston we were thinking about getting the boys that had not played games so they could get medals and getting a lot of the guys we signed late in the season games. We cannot do that this year, there is not chance to let up and I am not going to let us do that this year.”

Jordan Clark who returned for the run-in, has been ruled out for the season with a chipped bone in his shoulder. There are hopes that injured duo Adam Hunt and Graham Martin can play some part in the remaining four games.

On Saturday’s trip to in-form Eastbourne United, Di Paola added: “It really is going to be a tough game down there. They are a good side in good form, and have done well since the new manager came in.

“It’s up to the boys and whether they rise to the challenge. They’re desperate to do well, so hopefully we follow the game plan and do that.”
