Snooker ace hits thrilling form

The 18-year-old reached the final of the Essex & Herts ranking event 2 at Wickford where he finished runner-up after being overcome 3-1 by North London's Lin Tieu, conceding 14 points a frame.

On his way to the final he dropped just four frames all day in his five wins against the experienced Darren Limburg who was seen off 3-2 with breaks of 105, 78 and 40, and Gregg Tugby, who was beaten by the same score, with the help of runs of 67, 50 and a highest break of the day of 107.

The following week Robertson went one better to win the Golden Waistcoat at Haverhill. After qualifying from the group stages with some outstanding break-building which featured runs of 108, 121 and again the highest break of a the day, a terrific 135.

The teenager went on to beat Daniel O'Brien, Oliver Hoblyn and Alex Davies, all 3-0, before winning 4-1 in the final against new Chinese sensation Liang Wenbo.

Robertson then joined 80 of the world's top players at Pontins in Pestatyn for the second event of six in the under-21 series. After again qualifying comfortably from the group stages, winning seven out of nine matches, the O'Sullivan's cueist met Welshman Aled Brothers who was edged out 3-2 to set up a meeting with Irish champion Mark Allen.

Robertson stormed into a 2-0 lead with one frame being settled by a new personal highest break and tournament high break of 142 only for Allen to level. But a run of 74 in the decider saw the Bexhill ace clinch a 3-2 triumph.

Lewis Roberts was put to the sword 3-1 in the quarter-finals which set up a last four clash against friend Alex Davies, a former youngest ever English Amateur champion whom Robertson disposed of 3-0 the previous week.

This time Davies had other ideas and after Robertson had levelled the match at 2-2 the Clacton player ran out the winner 3-2 before losing by the same score in the final against tournament favourite Jamie Cope.
