Three Friday Nights end on a high as DJ Mike is Streets ahead

GOODWOOD'S Three Friday Nights have again been hailed another big success after Mike Skinner brought proceedings to a close with a fantastic set in front of big crowds last week.

The racecourse’s themed evenings drew to a finale with The Streets front man Mike Skinner wowing the Goodwood crowds with a DJ set, accompanied by a superb laser and light show over the course’s parade ring after the earlier six-race card.

It capped off a mixed three nights for the racecourse, as, before Radio 2 DJ Dermot O’Leary was every bit as crowd-pleasing the previous week with his set, showing he really does have the X-Factor, the first night in the series had a disastrous end.

A packed course had enjoyed a fantastic six races, before, just as Groove Armada were set to take the stage, a power cut plunged Goodwood into darkness and forced course bosses to eventually cancel the gig – much to the disappointment of the thousands present.

But despite that setback Goodwood managing director Adam Waterworth was pleased with how the nights went overall and has plans to make things even bigger and better next year.

He said: “It’s been a fairly eventful Three Friday Nights for us.

“After the first one with the power cut, which you could never expect, it was a disappointment for everyone. The second got us back on track but it was always difficult taking on an England football game.

“But in terms of the night and the crowd we were really pleased and the reaction we got from the DJ and everyone there was good.

“Then on to the third night, which was a great finish. The crowd was good and the DJ set fantastic. There were more people on the dance floor than for Mark Ronson the year before, so we felt the Three Friday Nights finished on a really positive note.

“We have always said the Three Friday Nights should become about the night and not the artist. The location we have there is fantastic for that.

“We wanted to step up the lights and atmosphere and it showed the parade ring, that is fantastic.

“We want to build on them and make it even bigger next year and more and more so in years to come with it as a permanent fixture.”
