Weather puts Payne to test

SUSSEX shooters were lucky with the weather when the new season opened at Bisley last week with the long-range Harvey Cup and HOrnblower Bowl matches.

Already a rude awakening, these early season tests at 900 and 1000 yards find out who is best prepared for whatever the elements can thorw at them.

It was Hailsham's John Payne who led the way and landed the Blackman Cup and close behind were Reg Roberts, George Cotton, Tony de Launay and Ron Nichols.
