Week to remember for star Yardy

Cricket star Michael Yardy has had a week to remember playing for the England Twenty20 team against Pakistan.

The Sussex captain produced a man of the match display in the NatWest Series opener on Sunday and then recorded the all-time joint most economical England T20 bowling figures in the second match on Tuesday.

Yardy, whose talent was forged with Battle and Hastings Priory Cricket Clubs, hit a game-clinching 35 not out with the bat and took 1-21 with the ball in the first encounter.

The 29-year-old struck four boundaries in a 26-ball knock and shared an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 67 from 43 balls with fellow left-hander Eoin Morgan as England triumphed by five wickets with 17 balls to spare.

Former William Parker Sports College pupil Yardy earlier produced a useful four-over spell of slow left-arm bowling, as well as holding a catch off Tim Bresnan as troubled Pakistan totalled 126-4 batting first.

Two days later, Yardy conceded just 10 runs off his four overs - matching the economy rate of Bresnan, who took 3-10 in the same game - and held a catch to help bowl the tourists out for just 89.

Yardy was again there at the end with 6 not out from as many balls as England cruised home by six wickets to win the series 2-0 and equal the international record of seven successive T20 victories.
