WINNING RUN IS OVER

SUSSEX Open League Premier leaders Southwick crashed to their first defeat of the season at Penguin on Saturday, but the Worthing side left it late before stealing the points, ending a run of 12 successive victories.

In the second game on the Leisure Centre astro pitch on Saturday, Penguin made sure their fans didn't go home disappointed with a performance player- manager Mark Stuart-Thompson hailed as one of their best this season.

In a game of few openings it was Penguin who took the early initiative with Jeff Blunsdon hitting the Southwick post in the fifth minute.

Dave Matthews and Marcus Brunton then carved out another opening seven minutes later but again they failed to find the net. Brunton hit back across goal from a good run down the flank only for Matthews to blast wide.
