Laurence is a freelance musician working both internationally and in the UK as a bass-baritone soloist, choir-trainer, organist and teacher. He has been working with the choir as interim music director since January, leading members on Zoom rehearsals of an American Celebration, with works by Copland, Bernstein, Britten and Hagenberg.

EGCS chairman Gill Olliver said: “Laurence is enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-looking and possesses great musicianship. While leading our rehearsals as interim music director he quickly developed an excellent rapport with the choir and his appointment has been warmly welcomed by members.”

Laurence said: “It is such a pleasure to have been appointed to the position of music director for EGCS. Having enjoyed working with the choir over the past couple of months, it is delightful for me that we will continue to make music together in the future.

“I have found every member to be enthusiastic, willing and happy to rehearse: such important ingredients for a successful choir. I look forward to the day I can actually hear everyone sing! I would like to thank the trustees for their support and I look forward to a close relationship with them as we look for ways to continue the great work of the choir and new ways to expand.”

Laurence works with various choirs including Islington Choral Society and Epworth Choir Woking. He has worked extensively in schools, having been director for both Fulham Prep School Chamber Choir and The Peterborough School Chapel Choirs. He has his own teaching studio in London.
