Concert puts a smile on faces of its audience

AN APPRECIATIVE audience in a Bognor Regis church was treated to a performance of virtuoso clarinet playing by Terry Stanton who was ably accompanied on the piano by Rex Latter.

The programme for the free lunchtime concert at St Wilfrid’s Church had been carefully chosen to bring out the best of the clarinet from quiet thoughtful melodies to the more technically brilliant scale and arpeggio passages.

They opened the concert with Introduction, theme and variations by Rossini and followed this with two movements from a Clarinet Quintet by Heinrich Barmann.

Rex then played Nobody does it better by Marvin Hamlisch arranged by George Shearing to provide a different style and mood. Terry continued with two movements from the Clarinet Quartet Op 2 by Bernard Crusell before the theme from the Antiques Roadshow and the Carnaval de Venise brought a tuneful and light-hearted end to the concert.
