Comedy Beats is back at The Grasshopper in Crawley on Thursday, April 6, for their second show in the venue.
Spokesman Mark Coxon said: “Our first one at the Grasshopper last month was a massive success. It was such a hit it looks like becoming a monthly club.”
He continued: “We set the company up, about a year and a half ago, with the specific intention of bringing the very best club comics from London circuit down here. Because I have been a comedian myself for the past two decades I already know almost all the best acts and consider many of them as good friends. So far we have already managed to get Simon Evans, Zoe Lyons, Nathan Caton, Mike Gunn and Dominic Holland to come down and do some shows. Later in the year we have Carl Donnelly, Stephen K. Amos and Terry Alderton already booked in.
“We’ve got a really good line-up this month, compered by Phil Dinsdale. I booked him to do our very first gig back in April 2015. He is an ex-steel worker from the north-east, but lives in Surrey now. He is a very friendly, charming and warm compere, who interacts really well with the audience, mixing chat and solid material to exactly the right proportion.
“First up is the brilliant Rudi Lickwood, a closing act in his own right. Since we started Comedy Beats I have booked him more than any other act. I must have seen him well over a hundred times and I have honestly never seen him have a bad gig. He is an excellent comedian, but what I think makes him really special is his performing skills. There are very few comics on the circuit who sell their gags as well as him. He talks about things we all relate too and has this really playful way on stage. I am so happy we’ve got him down for this show, it will be great to watch him again.
“After the first interval we have the musical comic Robert White. He has been described as the only Asperger, dyslexic, cross-lateral, gay, quarter-Welsh, web-toed, comedian on the circuit. That gives a pretty good indication of where he is coming from. If you like clever and silly at the same time Robert is your man. I remember the first time I booked him, Gary who I run Comedy Beats with, was really nervous about how he would go down. He absolutely smashed it and stole the show. He is one of the rising stars of the circuit, and again a closing act in his own right.
“Finally, Bob Mills will take to the stage. I have said before I always like to get at least one act on each bill who is well known. Some of your readers will remember him from his TV shows Win Lose Or Draw and In Bed With Me Dinner, others will listen to him every Friday morning on Talksport. We get on really well. He is a devoted Leyton Orient fan and I am obsessed with Crawley Town. Whenever we are meant to be talking about comedy, we just end up chatting about League 2. He is a top comedian and definitely one not to be missed.”
“I really recommend people get their tickets for this show as soon as they can. The first one was so close to selling out and I am pretty sure there will be even greater demand this time around.”
The show starts at 8pm. Tickets £10 from the venue or visit www.ComedyBeats.com.
