Boy taken to hospital with serious injuries after crash in Crawley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a nine-year-old boy was seriously hurt in a crash in Crawley on Friday (March 18).

Two other children were taken to hospital after the collision involving an Audi S4 and a Volkswagen Golf on the A23 Crawley Avenue, near Apple Green garage, at about 11pm.

The four occupants of the Golf were injured including a nine-year-old boy from Crawley who suffered serious head and back injuries and was taken to St George’s Hospital, London. He is in a stable condition.

The 61-year-old female driver, an eight-year-old boy and a six-year-old boy who were passengers were taken to the East Surrey Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Audi made off but one was arrested nearby.

A 17-year-old Crawley boy was detained on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after an accident, possession with intent to supply a class A drug and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas.

A 26-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after an accident and possession with intent to supply a class A drug and was treated for serious injuries in hospital.

Both men were bailed until April 16 while enquiries continue.
