The gym, now known as Crawley West, is one of 35 UK facilities which is officially owned by Nuffield Health from today.

A statement from the company said: “All 2,300 Virgin Active employees from the 35 gyms also moved over to Nuffield Health today, along with 120,000 members. The familiar green shield logo is now being installed, signifying the beginning of a rebranding process.

“A multi-million investment programme will now begin to turn all the sites into Nuffield Health fitness and wellbeing gyms.

“Plans include enhancing current facilities with the addition of medical clinics within a number of the gyms, featuring services such as physiotherapy, in-depth health assessments, nutritional therapy and private GP appointments. Once up and running, these can be used by both non-members and members.

“This acquisition also now means that Nuffield Health will be offering the largest multi-access gym provision in the UK, where members will be able to use more gyms. Members will also be able to access a free one day guest pass for their family and friends. And those who were previously members of the Vitality scheme will also retain all their benefits.

“Swimming pools in all the sites will also be kept, reinforcing Nuffield Health’s commitment to teach more children and adults to swim. All new and existing members will also receive Nuffield Health’s signature free Health MOT checks throughout the year, measuring blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar level, BMI, resting heart rate, waist to hip ratio and aerobic fitness.”

Steve Gray, chief executive officer for Nuffield Health said: “We are thrilled to welcome these 35 sites into the Nuffield Health family. This marks an exciting milestone in our 59 year history and represents a significant next step in our strategy to provide a seamless and connected health and wellbeing offering to more people.

“We will now be able to deliver much broader services such as physiotherapy, health assessments and nutritional therapy all under one roof, as well as provide our standard services such as fitness classes, personal training and swimming lessons. We can also offer a helpful link to our 31 Nuffield Health hospitals, with pay-as-you go treatment for all, without waiting lists.”
