UPDATE: Boy arrested after teen stabbed at Crawley house party

Officers were called to a large and noisy party at a house in West Green Drive at around 9.25pm on Wednesday (June 1).

Police said they dispersed more than 200 young people using the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act.

An 18-year-old man was found at the house with a stab wound to his stomach, officers said.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said the teenager walked into the Urgent Treatment Centre at Crawley Hospital with the injury.

Two ambulances were sent to the hospital and he was taken to East Surrey Hospital for further treatment.

Detective Sergeant Karrie Bohanna, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this stage of the investigation there is nothing to suggest that any other members of the public are at risk. As a result of this incident at a spontaneous event, we have increased police patrols in the area.”

Police said a 13-year-old boy from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent. He has been bailed until August 6 while investigations continue.

Sergeant John McGorry said these incidents were not common in Crawley and the force had not seen an increase in violence linked to private parties.

He said: “These events do occur from time to time and mainly involve youths but fortunately we do not receive many reports of injury as a result of them. While such events occasionally result in some form of anti-social behaviour occurring, we have not seen an increase in violence linked with such events.

“Dealing with unplanned, private events is very different from dealing with parties or events in licensed premises where police and licensing authorities are required to be given advance notice of an event which includes: number of guests attending; whether alcohol is being served or not; whether guests can bring their own alcohol; and the number of Security Industry Association (SIA) accredited door staff who will be on site.

“This allows us to plan and deal accordingly and may require providing additional resources if necessary.

“A spontaneous event will be dealt with by duty personnel who will respond accordingly based on the situation they are confronted with.”
