Firefighters rushed to reports of a fire in an Eastbourne library this evening (February 14).

Fire engines were sent to Old Town Library in Victoria Drive after the alarm was raised at about 6.45pm.

However a spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) told this newspaper it was a false alarm and someone had mistaken a “flickering light” for flames.

Crews were stood down.
