Copthorne's Pavitt wins at Hickstead

Copthorne's Nicole Pavitt has won a prestigious showjumping class at Hickstead's Longines Royal International Horse Show.

The Sussex-based rider secured victory in the Bunn Leisure International Stakes on Friday, July 29, riding Virginia Quine’s 14-year-old gelding Victor Blue.

Pavitt topped the field of 34, recording the fastest clear round by 1.7 seconds, and qualifying for Saturday’s British Speed Classic.

Pavitt defied an ankle injury sustained in a fall earlier in the week to take the honours. She said of Victor Blue; “He’s naturally quick and likes to think he’s in control, so this suits him. You know nine out of ten times he’ll be clear and fast. He’s brilliant, my horse of a lifetime really.

“He’s going good - you can’t be over-confident but we’ll see what tomorrow brings in the Speed Classic.”

As one of the biggest outdoor shows in the country, the Longines Royal International Horse Show, which is held over six days, is one of the oldest and most prestigious competitions in the calendar.

Hickstead also hosts a leg of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Series, featuring the national showjumping team competing on home turf.
